I wish i could say that this Sunday was just like any other Sunday spent at the shop with two of my favorite people, and not the Sunday before the Monday that i have been dreading for so long.
But it wasn't.
It was, and is, the day before Nick leaves us*, and while thinking about that sucks, sucks, sucks, we spent it just the way i'd hoped we would; hanging out at the shop and getting stupid tattoos together.


Before this, Nick hadn't been tattooed in about 7 years... no, really!

Aaaand, by the looks of it, he hadn't missed it much

So, Nick got the viking tattoo he'd been wanting for so long, but the party didn't stop there.
We needed buddy tattoos as well.
Of course we did.
Nick did the drawing and Allan did the stencil that was used on all three of us.
Magic.

The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful.

Well, it's been roughly a month since I've signed into this blog to write anything. I can't really explain why it's taken me so long to get back to it except that I felt a need to be quiet and really had nothing overly interesting to share. Every time I thought about writing anything I was met with a blank wall, which may have been a reflection of my January state of mind or the fact that I was working very hard to finish up the gardening magazine I was writing...over 144 pages of container gardening stories and info and well, I think my mind went into sleep mode and so did I. It has taken several emails from sweet readers wondering where the hell I was to nudge me into logging in.


As I mentioned after Christmas, I received a new and improved camera as a present and it seems to have scared me into never picking up a camera again. I bought myself a new, pretty camera strap (which still hasn't arrived!), a camera bag, a 50 mm lens, and an instructional DVD. The fact that I did all that and still haven't taken more than a few photos speaks to my current lack of ambition/courage. I have vowed to at least put the DVD in the player and watch a few minutes as soon as the magazine is finalized. Then maybe I'll become brave enough to actually post a picture of something. 


Until that time, I decided I am better off sharing a few photos and links of things I have found to be lovely, annoying or curious and see what you think. Some are things I purchased as Christmas gifts for others, others are pretty people or homes/decorating, and others are just plain dumb.


Please, January, just hurry up and be over already!!

 The Good:





I bought this pillow for my house from Helkat Design and a green and blue one for my mum. I don't care if they are a fad; the Union Jack is special to me.


 I love this blog. Her life seems so sweetly simple and back to basics, and I mean that in the nicest way, truly. Just look at this wonderful handmade Christmas she created for her "little one." And her kitchen is so pretty, too. 


The Bad:





On the opposite end of the spectrum is this nursery. I have seen it floating around several blogs lately and while it is stylish, it just grates on me that a parent could so overtly choose style over safety. Yes, the yellow  crib is beautiful and the room's vibe very Anthropologie, but that crib scares the heck out of me. Some may defend it, but if they do they have never had children and are glued to design sites where cutting-edge style is more important than comfort or warmth... or were the kind of parents who had a horseshoe kicking around inside of them. 
I know you know what I'm talking about.


 The Beautiful:





When I saw this photo of Jenny Holiday on her blog recently I was dumbstruck at how beautiful she looked with her pink hair. Have you ever seen a hair colour so perfectly suit someone? I will never have the nerve to colour my hair anything other than my assisted blonde, but for some people, it just works!!


And this blouse:



I want it so badly but the price stops me in my tracks. Plays upon all of my childhood hang-ups.
And add the high shipping charges and the taxes and duty that big U.S. retailers so thoughtfully pay/charge on my behalf and it just makes the cost prohibitive. And don't get me started on companies that won't ship to Canada!!
Yep. Beauty and the Beast, that blouse is.





 And one of the most beautiful of all poems, perfect for those of us with children who are edging closer to flying the nest. My favourite line is:

More butt roses

I was just about to post something on my personal blog, when i realized that i didn't really have anything to blog about.
It's a real problem for me these days; either we get home super late and i'm too tired to blog, or nothing new and exciting really happened.
That's winter for you, i guess.
Just lots of work and lots of xbox playing.

But back to this blog, where i actually have a little update on a really cool piece.
Anne got another session on her... well, her ass, mostly, last week.
Still only lines, but now there are thicker lines, thinner lines and yeah, basically just a hell of a lot more lines.

Today was Nicks last workday at Conspiracy Inc.
In like, ever.
I mean, it's not like he's never coming back to visit, he totally will, but as of today, he doesn't really work here anymore.
It's strange to think about, after all these years. Too strange really, so i actually prefer not to.

Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator

Paramount Pictures announced today that Sacha Baron Cohen’s new comedy The Dictator will be released worldwide on May 11, 2012. The studio also announced that Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) has come aboard to direct.




As the press releases states: "The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel Zabibah and The King by Saddam Hussein."




Uh-oh. Sounds like this film is going to be offensively funny. But, then again, we've come to expect that from Mr. Cohen.

I was reading your blog- I love it! My father got this tattoo and he wont tell anyone what it means. Its been rumored to mean "man with many blessings" or "man with a big stick." Can you tell me what it really means?

The characters 永 & 石 mean "eternal" and "rock/stone". Of course, the tattooed phrase is non-sense. However, it is very likely the person got this wanted to "rock forever" if he was into the music scene, or "[to be] stone forever" as a junkie. As many modern day rockstars are both.

Miss Piggy Gets a New Gig

We just found out that Miss Piggy will be playing a French Vogue editor in the new Muppet Movie, coming out next year, starring Jason Segal and Amy Adams. She certainly has the 'tude to pull this role off! How hilarious?!? We love it! Kermit might make good arm-candy, but he's got nothing on that vintage Chanel...

More projects

Yesterday my parents drove in from the country with our new dark room.
Or, everything we're gonna need to put in it, that is. The room itself has yet to be built, but we're working on it.
And we're wondering why the shop is never gonna be finished?
Maybe we shouldn't.


I have no pictures of the back room, because it's a total mess, but i do have a picture of my new custom made granny blanket!

New Year, New Home for Vintage Home!

After many years we've outgrown our lovely little cottage here in Oxfordshire and we're on the move to a wonderful old house in rural Herefordshire complete with barn, outbuildings and a big, rambling garden from which to take Vintage Home onto bigger and even better things!

There's so much to do - and we're nearly packed...but...we have so many beautiful things that Big Ron the Removal Man says there simply isn't enough room for them all in the removal van...

...so we're having a ONE-OFF SALE! at the Vintage Home online store. As you know, we don't do sales - except this one - and it's absolute madness with UP TO 40% OFF selected items across the entire store. The more you buy the more you save (and the less we'll have to pack!) But DO HURRY - Ron, bless him, is not a patient man!


Ron's very passionate about removals - best not to trifle with his emotions!


Lovely as our new home will be - our arrival there coincides with that of the builders who'll be spending at least a couple of months making it into a cosy Vintage Home! This is bound to have an impact on everyday life and business - and could mean that orders may not be sent out as quickly as usual whilst we endeavour to juggle everything! We hope you will be patient and we'll aim to have orders packed and posted as soon as possible.

My friend's boyfriend had this tattoo done with another friend whilst on holiday in Turkey. It was supposed to be his grandmother's name, but not only did the tattooist get his and his friend's tattoos mixed up, the lettering seems to be reflected as well. This tattoo was taken when i broke up with my First Love, i was 22 then. We went to tattoo exhibit with my friends and my artist was the only one with oriental signs and their explanations. Altough i'm not sure they ment what they were intended... So, my signs explanation was "strength". My brother calls this tattoo as "noodle", so i think what ever this means or even if it doesn't mean anything, it will stay as "noodle" or in my head as "strenght", but surely i'd like to know what it means to others... :-D
